Mercedes Vito offers comfort, quality and badge prestige within reasonable affordability. The latest model, a medium size Mercedes panel van, competes with some of the most popular models such as Citroen Dispatch and Ford Transit Custom. This latest update in Vito, provides both the front and rear wheel drive along with two wheelbase and three body size options. Latest Mercedes Vito comes with a payload capacity of up to 1,369kg and load volume ranging between 5.5 to 6.6 m3; however, a lack of high roof bodystyle makes Vito lag behind the most spacious mid-sized panel vans.
One of the most economic panel vans to go with, Vito is provided with a pair of diesel engines. Coming from Renault, the smaller 1.6-litre four-cylinder is fitted only with the Forward Wheel Drive (FWD) Vito models, while the Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) vans are powered by a larger 2.1-litre diesel cylinder. Altogether, the Euro6 compliant Vito 119 BlueTEC offers a distribution of outputs between 87 to 188bhp.
Vito has returned to FWD configuration, which has reduced the purchase cost over previous versions. In addition, the 161bhp 116 CDI provided with the Blue Efficiency package has a combined cycle return capacity of 49.6mpg. This package comes only with the RWD vans. All the models are provided with an SCR exhaust system to cope with the latest vehicle emission standards.
The ASSYST computer helps to estimate the exact time of service while the normal service interval maybe up to 25,000 miles, approximately two years. The cost of maintenance and repair have been reduced compared with the older versions by 6.4% along with a provision of 12 years of anti-corrosion warranty.
The FWD models offer a payload capacity of 1,289kg while RWD models lie at the top of the range with a payload capacity of 1,369kg. However, the load area dimensions are pretty identical with older models with only a 140mm increased length along the range.
Vito offers great reliability and safety, provided with both the driver and passenger airbags and 8 airbags in the Tourer minibus. Lane Keeping Assist system, adjustable high-output LED headlight and distance warning system makes Vito one of the most reliable options.
Generally, the FWD 2.6 litre model is suitable for lighter duty urban work while the RWD 2.2 litre Vito is ideal for larger payload and mileage. The four-cylinder common rail turbo diesel provides an affordable end to the panel van range. The 2.1 litre models are somewhat similar to Mercedes Benz.
The engine is almost same as Mercedes Benz but has a twin turbo layout and modified for van usage to provide a smooth drive.
Vito has a solid and simple designing employing tough plastic material; however, the screen size is small and storage of bigger items may be a problem. Considering interior, the firm and comfortable seats are provided with side support and adjustment options, driving position is more practical and car like than a Vivaro and the dash and steering are beautifully designed with Mercedes quality.
